Vegan Ayurvedic Cooking Class - "Vegan Barbeque Feast"

Ayurvedic specialist & chef Karuna Mayi will teach a three hour hands-on vegetarian cooking workshop that shows you how to prepare a delicious, healthy vegetarian meal based on the ancient holistic healing system of Ayurveda. The class will be held on Saturday, June 28 from 2:00 - 5:00PM at the Creative Life Center in Houston. Learn to prepare delicious recipes for Barbeque Tofu, Potato and Pea Samosas, Rainbow Rice, Walnut and Raisin Halava, Apple Chutney and Mango Lassi. All recipes are totally vegan!

Fiesta presents a Vegan Cooking Class - "Healthy Mexican Cuisine"

Personal vegan chef Staci Davis will teach a vegan cooking class called “Healthy Mexican” cuisine on Thursday, June 12, 2008. The menu is light, healthy and meat free! Friend of BARC and Cooper Clinic are hosting another fun-filled monthly "Meet & Greet" -- this month is the 2 year Anniversary event!

This month will be the 2 year anniversary event on Saturday, June 7 in the Heights from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm! Meet homeless dogs and cats in need of loving families! All proceeds from the event will go to Friends of BARC, a non profit volunteer group, to purchase needed supplies for the city’s shelter animals.

You can also drop off donations for BARC anytime or at the Meet and Greet at Cooper Animal Clinic, 1136 Heights Blvd. This will be another great opportunity to meet shelter animals in need of a second chance.

Public Hearing in Houston on overfishing and ocean protection

On Thursday, June 5, 2008, there will be a public hearing in Houston on the topic of overfishing, ocean protection and proposed aquaculture in the Gulf. Activists are needed to speak on behalf of ocean protection, as public support is needed. Citizens can silently show support by holding a sign or you can sign up to speak for three minutes.

Society of PEACE Art Car debut at the Houston Art Car Parade

The Society of P.E.A.C.E. vegan-themed Art Car will debut at the 2008 Houston Art Car Parade in Downtown Houston. Our art car pays tribute to, and is inspired by, vegan artist Peter Max!

This is the world's largest and oldest Art Car Parade and will be a great day of outreach as we hand out literature in the morning, then thousands will see our vegan-themed car during the afternoon parade.

Join us for a celebration in honor of the 6 year Anniversary of Go Vegan Texas! (airs weekly on KPFT Houston). We will also celebrate the pre-grand opening of the new World Veggie Cuisine vegan restaurant.

There will be entertainment and guest speakers, including Go Vegan Texas! co-founder Janice Blue and World Veggie Cuisine chef Allana Muhammad. This event will take place at 6:30 PM and will feature a multi-ethnic vegan & raw vegan buffet. The price is $15.00 for adults, $7.50 for children under 12 and children under 5 eat free! Volunteers are needed to help paint & decorate in the coming weeks. Remember that you'll need to attend a workshop in order to ride in or alongside our vehicle on the day of the parade (May 10)! Note: Workshops are held outdoors, so dress accordingly and wear sunscreen. Painting can still take place in garage in case of rain.

Vegetarian/Vegan Weekday Lunch & Concert at I-fest Houston

The Houston Hare Krishna Cultural Center will have an International Festival booth this year in the Main Out of Africa zone in front of City Hall, near the reflection pool in Downtown Houston. This zone is open on Friday, April 25 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.

The booth # F404, called the "Higher Taste", will have vegan & vegetarian options including samosas, BBQ tofu, rice and mango smoothies. This is a great time to introduce your friends to Hare Krishna veggie cuisine, and enjoy a free concert. The Friday event is FREE. Of course, the food sales are by coupon only. Sponsored by the Houston Hare Krishna Cultural Center.

"World Laboratory Animal Liberation Week" Press Conference & Demonstration

On Friday, April 25, 2008, local activists from Society of P.E.A.C.E., ISWA, HART and other groups and caring individuals will be gathering for an educational demonstration and press conference in the medical center to speak out against cruelty to animals in laboratories and animal testing & research. The peaceful protest will begin at 12:00 noon.

We will meet corner Bertner Street and Bates Street for a news conference and then move onto Holcombe Drive. (There is only paid parking unfortunately so if you wish to carpool, please contact Melanie.) Signs & leaflets will be provided. Please attend and be a voice for animals who suffer in laboratories!

This press conference and educational demonstration is being coordinated with national groups In Defense of Animals and Stop Animal Exploitation NOW! Society of PEACE Advisor & Member Melanie Blake is the Houston coordinator for this event. Dr. Anteneh Roba will be speaking at the conference. "World Laboratory Animal Liberation Week" Leafleting

Join activists from Society of P.E.A.C.E. and other local groups and caring individuals for leafleting and outreach in honor of WLALW 2008! Leafleting and outreach to help raise public awareness regarding cruelty to animals in labs will take place on Thursday, April 24, 2008 from 4:30 - 6:30 PM. Please attend and be a voice for animals who suffer in labs year round!

Volunteers should meet at Memorial Park in Houston, near the Becks sign entrance. We will be leafleting on the public sidewalk areas. When you arrive, please check in with Jewell or Janice. Leaflets and literature will be provided.
